Weekend Update #3: Who Pooped on Cairo While I Was Gone?

Made a last-minute decision to shuffle on down to Aswan over the weekend with some of the CASA kids. While Aswan itself was beautiful, clean, sunny and super chilled out, the trip itself really turned out to be an exercise in food/water/sleep deprivation and a severe trial of patience.

We took an overnight train down, which was reasonably comfortable - and for 85LE one-way, you can't really complain that the super large seats down recline all the way. Because we arrived so late in the afternoon, the first day was pretty chilled out; two-hour felucca ride on the Nile and then a long boozy dinner. Got up at 3am to do a day-long trip out to Abu Simbel to see the temples, which were absolutely breathtakingly awesome. Also stopped to visit the Temple of Philae on the way back and got scammed out of 10LE each to drive over the stupid High Dam.

The overnight sleeper train back was reasonably comfortable and nice, though I could have done with out the meat-meat-four carbohydrates-greasy potatoes meal. Was chagrined to come back to a disgustingly brown Cairo...it seriously looks like someone pooped all over the city and then peed on it for good measure. I guess it's another one of those seasonal dust storms, but man is it crapass to have to live in.
