We Now Return You to Our Regularly Scheduled Program...
Yeah, I know. I'm a little bit tardy on the blogging.
I'm not quite sure what happened. Well, that's not entirely true. I got lazy. I got busy. I got a boyfriend. I took a three week vacation to Turkey in the middle of the semester. And all of a sudden it's June 4th, and - surprise! - I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing. I've decided to stay here in Cairo for the foreseeable future, so I suppose that's something of note.
That's right, no, you did not misread that, I said I'm staying in Cairo. Why? Well, the reasons are myriad and really not all that crazy.
First of all, there's the 'bic. I was really just about to say fuck it and give up, but then it turned out that I made a huge jump on my oral proficiency exam - from a high 1 (on a scale of 0-5, 0 being you know nothing and 5 being you are an educated native speaker) to a 3.7. That gave me the perhaps unjustified hope that I can work my way up to a mid 4 in the next year and keep improving my reading and listening comprehension with a private tutor.
Second, in trying to formulate something akin to a long-term plan, I thought it might be good to get some work experience abroad that would set me apart when I need to find a job back in the states. Also, another way to get the 'bic up to professional proficiency.
Third, I've moved into a phatty phat phat apartment with two salons and three balconies and a crapload of QUIET in Dokki with Blake, the aforementioned boyfriend. And let me tell you I'm not ashamed to say that it's great in every way.
Now if I could just find a job...
